Health Advisory issued for 4 Tampa beaches

Tampa, Florida-- Hillsborough County saltwater beach monitoring results revealed traces of enterococci bacteria, resulting in a Health Advisory for four Tampa Beaches:

  • Ben T. Davis, (North, and South)
  • Cypress Point, (North, and South)
  • Davis Island
  • Simmons Park

According to the Health Department, this should be considered a potential risk to the bathing public.

Samples taken Monday were above threshold for enterococci bacteria, and the beach will be re-sampled Monday, July 2, 2012.

When re-sampling indicates that the water is within the satisfactory range, the Health Department says the advisory will be lifted.

According to Health Department, water quality categorizations are based upon:

United States Environmental Protection Agency's (EPA's) recommended standard for enterococci of no more than 104 colony forming units per 100 milliliters of marine water.
