Adventure Island prepares guests for the summer season

Tampa, FL -- Adventure Island kicks off the summer season by featuring experts at the park for skin cancer screenings and to share water safety information with guests on Monday, May 2.

Dermatology experts from University Community Health will be offering free skin cancer screenings at Adventure Island from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m.

Staff from Bay Dermatology, an associate of UCH, will be available for screenings and prevention information.

No appointment is necessary, but a paid admission to the park is required.

May is national Melanoma Awareness Month, and the first Monday of the month is referred to as Melanoma Monday, during which dermatologists and other healthcare professionals around the country offer free skin cancer screenings to those interested. Melanoma is the least common type of skin cancer, but causes about 75% of all skin cancer related deaths.

Adventure Island will also feature drowning prevention information from the Hillsborough Water Safety Team on Monday, May 2.

The team promotes safety in and around water, focusing on educating parents about simple steps that can be done to keep kids safe and help prevent a tragedy.
