Input needed: Bicycle Safety Action Plan

Valrico, FL -- With gas prices going up a lot of folks could be turning to two wheels to get around.

And over the last few years, several bicyclists have been killed or injured on Bay Area roads. Hillsborough County residents are asked to give their input on the draft Hillsborough County Bicycle Safety Action Plan.

Due to the increase of those bicycle accidents in the County, Hillsborough County Commissioner Mark Sharpe initiated a coalition of representatives from key agencies responsible for bicycle safety to study the issue.

The group included local governments, transportation agencies, law enforcement, and education groups. They identified where and why bicycle accidents were happening in our community and to whom they were happening. The draft Plan, open to review and discussion, lays out a series of proposed specific actions to address these issues.

The county is hosting a meeting at the Bloomingdale Regional Library in Valrico on March 1.

Staff from the coalition will be at the meeting to discuss the Plan, take your questions and discuss your concerns.
