Tampa Gasparilla Parade 2011 schedule of events

Tampa, Florida -- The bleachers have gone up along Bayshore Boulevard in South Tampa. It's clear pirate time is upon us!

Altogether, Tampa's Gasparilla pirate festival spans almost six weeks. It ends with the Knight Parade and Gasparilla Distance Classic run next month.

But the fun for everyone began Saturday with the Gasparilla Children's Parade, which stretched along Bayshore Blvd. The route started at Bay to Bay Blvd. and ran north to Morrison Ave. in Hyde Park.

If you're attending one of the parades, don't park yer carrrrr in the neighborhoods around the parade -- you'll get a ticket or towed -- instead, park downtown and take a $5 shuttle.

The next two Saturdays arrrrr going be busy, so here's the schedule:

Gasparilla Children's Parade
Saturday, Jan. 22
3:30 p.m. to 6 p.m.
Fireworks at 7 p.m.
Route runs along Bayshore Blvd.
No alcohol

Gasparilla Parade of the Pirates
Saturday, Jan. 29
2 p.m. to 5:30 p.m.
Route follows Bayshore all the way into Downtown
Alcohol allowed along the event route only

There are new alcohol rules in effect this year for the Parade of the Pirates on Jan. 29th. This year, open containers of alcohol will only be allowed immediately along the route.

There were a number of drinking and non-drinking zones last year, and organizers say that experiment didn't work out very well.
