Charter Review Board wants Public opinion | Events
Hillsborough County, FL -- Two public hearings are scheduled to discuss and receive public comment on two proposed revisions to the Hillsborough County Home Rule Charter.
The two public hearings are scheduled for Monday, Jan. 10 at 6 p.m. and Monday, Jan. 24 at 6 p.m. Both public hearings will be held in the 2nd Floor Board Room of County Center, 601 E. Kennedy Blvd. in downtown Tampa.
Public comment will be taken both at the beginning and at the close of each public hearing. At the public hearings, the Charter Review Board has the discretion to continue the public hearing to a future date and time certain.
The first Resolution to be discussed pertains to changing existing language in the Charter from “physical handicap” to “disability.”
The second Resolution to be discussed would require a separate financial impact statement to be filed and placed on the ballot immediately following the ballot question for all proposed County Charter Amendments and all proposed Countywide referenda. This statement would indicate any increase or decrease in revenues or cost to the County resulting from the approval of any proposed County Charter Amendments and other proposed Countywide referenda unrelated to a Charter Amendment.
The two Resolutions for consideration can be reviewed online at the Charter Review Web site by visiting www.hillsboroughcounty.org, and clicking on 2010 Charter Review Board link on the left side of the page. The Resolutions are posted on the main page and also under Documents on the left side of the page.
Any proposed changes to the Hillsborough County Home Rule Charter would go before voters for approval in November 2012.
All meetings and public hearings will be televised by Hillsborough Television, seen on channel 622 for Bright House customers, or channel 22 for Verizon FiOS or Comcast Cable customers.

The Home Rule Charter was approved by voters in a countywide referendum in September 1983. It details the organization of Hillsborough County government by dividing it between a legislative branch (County Commissioners) and the executive branch (County Administrator).
