John Legend lecture, other special events planned during USF Week

Tampa, Florida-- The University of South Florida will hold a series of events to rally Bull pride during USF Week, starting Monday, April 8 through Saturday, April 13.  Included is a lecture by nine-time Grammy Award winner John Legend, as well as the assembly of a USF time capsule.

While he is most recognized for his soulful sounds, Legend will unveil another side of himself in speaking about the importance of education and civic engagement. The free lecture, which will include a few songs performed by Legend, will be held at 8:00 p.m. on Tuesday, April 9, in the Marshall Student Center Ballroom.

Sponsored by the USF Student Affairs University Lecture Series, Legend’s talk is anticipated to inspire audience members to continue in their academic pursuits. His own humanitarian initiatives, such as the Show Me Campaign, openly demonstrate his commitment to education, which he believes is a vehicle to break cycles of poverty.

USF Week also aims to build new traditions, with the community invited to join students, faculty, staff, and alumni for the system-wide celebration.  Other events scheduled include:

  • Kick-Off Pep Rally, Monday, April 8
  • The Ultimate Bull Talent Show, Wednesday, April 10
  • Bullstock, featuring the assembly of a USF Week time capsule and headlining bands the All-American   Rejects, Owl City and Hot Chelle Rae, Friday, April 12
  • USF Bulls Spring Football Game, Saturday, April 13

Now in its fourth year, the event was founded as USF Day in 2010, but later expanded to a longer celebration including all campuses in the USF System.
