Temple Terrace, FL-- The Temple Terrace Police Department is conducting a "Drive Sober or Get Pulled Over" campaign this holiday season in an effort to reduce the drinking and driving rate.

According to police, the impaired driving crack-down began December 12, and will last through January 1.

"Temple Terrace police officers will be aggressively looking for impaired drivers, and ready to arrest motorists driving under the influence," explains a release about the campaign.

"A lot of folks will be out and about this busy holiday season, enjoying themselves and family festivities, and we want everyone to be safe on our roadways," said Temple Terrace Police Department Captain Mike Pridemore. "That's why we're stepping up enforcement-- to catch and arrest impaired drivers."

According to Capt. Pridemore, in December of 2012, 30 percent of all fatalities in motor vehicle crashes involved alcohol impaired drivers.

Police recommend the following steps to stay safe and out of trouble:

  • Plan a safe way home before the fun begins. If your plans include drinking, the should not include driving
  • Designate a sober driver before drinking
  • If you're impaired, call a taxi, a sober friend or family member, or use public transportation to get home safely
