Learn to communicate during disaster with Tampa Bay 'Hams'

Tampa, Florida - Despite the Internet, cell phones, email and modern communications, every year entire regions find themselves in the dark, so this weekend, the Tampa Bay "hams" will join other Amateur Radio operators to show their emergency capabilities to the public.

According to a recent release:

"Tornadoes, fires, storms, ice and even the occasional cutting of fiber optic cables leave people without the means to communicate.

In these cases, the one consistent service that has never failed has been Amateur Radio,  radio operators, often called "hams", who provide backup communications for everything from the American Red Cross to FEMA and even for the International Space Station."

The event will take place in the TARC Clubhouse, 7801 N. 22nd St. Tampa, Florida 33610 on Saturday. That's in the city park at the dead end of 22nd St north of Sligh Avenue and east of I-275.
