Tampa, FL --  ...The Green Iguana!

Chefs gathered in Curtis Hixon Waterfront Park Friday night to flip burgers for braggin’ rights and raise money to support Friends of the Riverwalk in their goal of completing and activating Tampa’s Riverwalk.

The panel of culinary and celebrity Judges awarded Best Burger in the Bay to Green Iguana who presented a specialty burger not even on their menu, but will be served in restaurants for the next month in honor of their win!

The "ALA DAMM BAMA BOURBON BBQ BURGER" "The South Speaks Burger” with a smokey half pound beef topped with Bourbon molasses pulled pork, smoked cheese and fried sweet potato on a sweet bun, teased with Tabasco mayo and crisp Carolina slaw. Finished with a thick tempura fried pickle.

Foodies in attendance voted BGR The Burger Joint as People’s Choice winner. Their burger was "The Wellington" with deep-roasted mushrooms, caramelized onions, garlic, black truffles with blue cheese and house made mojo sauce all atop the burger.

The judges declared Ashley Street Grille from the Sheraton Riverwalk the winner of the Best Other-Than-Beef (O.T.B.) Burger.  The Amberjack slider with fresh poppy seed slaw and a lemon-Dill Aioli was juicy and delicious (now we know what was between those buns.)

Restaurants who’s chefs sharpened their knives for the Showdown competition include:

  • BGR The Burger Joint
  • Burger 21
  • Champions Bar & Grill

“Tampa really turned-out to support their local eateries and enjoy a gorgeous night with music, family and friends on the Riverwalk.  We are very pleased with this first-time event.  The partnership we have with EventFest, the Yacht Starship and our local restaurants is unique.  We definitely plan to repeat this event again next year,” said Roger Kurz, executive director of Friends of the Riverwalk.
