Celebrate Earth Day at USF's Botanical Gardens

Tampa, Florida-- On Saturday April 21, the University of South Florida Botanical Gardens hosts a "Go Native" event in honor of Earth Day from 10:00 a.m.-5:00 p.m.

Organized by the Tampa Bay Sierra Club and USF's Office of Sustainability, the event promotes the use of native plants in an urban landscape. 

Attendees can enjoy  exhibitors, demonstrations, arts and crafts, community groups, live music, food, and children's activities.

Tampa, Florida-- According to a recent release, the FishHawk Tennis Club and Community Information Center received a Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design Silver Certification from the U.S. Green Building Council.

The community recently added the facility, and was recognized with this LEED certification for a variety of efficiency and conservation practices exhibited during construction.

Hillsborough County, Florida-- The Hillsborough Area Regional Transit (HART) website offers Carbon Savings and Fuel Savings Calculators for drivers to use.

With Earth Day right around the corner, it wouldn't hurt to take a closer look at what your daily commute does to our Earth, and your earnings.

According to the American Public Transportation Association, a two-person household in Hillsborough County on average saves $9,884 annually and $824 monthly by taking public transportation and living with one less car.

Plant City, Florida---Join other folks in the community who want to keep Tampa Bay clean.

The Great American Clean up takes place Saturday, April 21st from 9am until Noon.

Projects include roadside cleanups, painting and planting.

There is also a need for boaters and kayakers to help with the waterway cleanups.

Last year, Keep Tampa Bay Beautiful recorded more than 10,400 volunteers who picked up 110,913 pounds of trash and recyclables from March through May of 2011.
