3 prescribed burns Tuesday in Hillsborough

If you are seeing smoke in your area today, not to worry, the Hillsborough County Parks, Recreation and Conservation Department and the Florida Forest Service are conducting three prescribed burns throughout the county.

Health Advisory lifted for 2 Tampa beaches

Tampa, Florida-- As of june 13, the Hillsborough County Health Department has lifted the health advisory  that was issued on June 6 for Ben T. Davis, (South), and Davis Island beach.

According to a recent release, follow-up testing was satisfactory based on the marine water bacterial indicator results as recommended by the EPA.

Controlled burns in Lithia for next 6 months

Lithia, Florida -- Tampa Bay Water will be conducting "controlled, prescribed burns" during the coming summer and fall months, June through December 2012.

The burns will take place on the C.W. Bill Young Regional Reservoir property.

The parcels slated for controlled burns are on the mitigation and conservation areas surrounding the reservoir, east of Hobson-Simmons Road, southeast of Browning Road and west of County Road 39.

Lithia, Florida -- If you're seeing smoke in the area it's because the Hillsborough County Parks, Recreation and Conservation Department is conducting a prescribed burn today, June 4 at Fish Hawk Nature Preserve.

Officials say the burn will last one day and the purpose of the burn is for Sandhill community restoration.

Conserve water

Plant City, Florida -- A friendly reminder that the the Executive Director of the Southwest Florida Water Management District declared a Modified Phase II water shortage for Hillsborough,Pasco and Pinellas counties.

So far, there have been six consecutive months of below-average rainfall.

The Phase II shortage will remain in effect until July 31 unless modified, extended or rescinded by the Governing Board or Executive Director.

Bright House Networks facilities soak up the sun

Riverview, Florida-- Bright House Networks announces the installation of a roof-mounted solar power system at its Riverview facility, just in time for Earth Day.

Eighty-eight solar panels will utilize Florida's most commonly known attribute, sunshine, to generate about 28,000 kWh a year.

According to their announcement, that is enough energy to power about two-and-a-half average single family homes annually. 

This addition to the Riverview facility is a part of their efforts to practice good stewardship in their served communities.
