Tampa Water Dept. offers grants to county teachers

Hillsborough County, FL -- The City of Tampa Water Department is offering Hillsborough County teachers classroom grants to help teach students how to use water more efficiently.

The grants ranging from $250 to $1,000, are available to teachers in grades K-12 whose schools are served by the Tampa Water Department.

In addition to teaching at a school in Tampa's service area, qualifying teachers must have completed a Project WET workshop.  Project WET is an interactive water education program with classroom activities and lessons correlated to the Sunshine State Standards. The workshops are provided free to educators by the Southwest Florida Water Management District.

More information on the workshops is available at www.swfwmd.state.fl.us/education/projectwet.

The 2011-2012 grant application period runs through Oct. 28, 2011.

Applications and full grant qualifications are available online at www.educationfoundation.com/SchoolEnrichment/CashClassrooms.

This is the second year the Water Department has sponsored the School Enrichment grants, which supports the City's initiatives to enhance educational programs through collaboration between City services and Tampa's schools.
