Veterans Memorial Park now open to the public

Tampa, FL -- The Hillsborough County Veterans Memorial Park and the Rear Admiral LeRoy Collins, Jr. Veterans Museum are now open to the public.

The park, located on 3602 N. US Highway 301 in Tampa, closed in January due to ongoing site enhancements.

Construction is still in progress throughout the park during operating hours, but will not impede access by visitors.  The completed portion of the project includes a new park entrance, driveway and parking lots.  Work currently being performed includes installation of front gates and walkway improvements that will provide access to future war memorials.

In 2006, the Hillsborough County Board of County Commissioners established the Veterans Memorial Park Expansion Committee to facilitate the development of a master plan to honor those who have served in the Armed Forces of the United States. Once fully implemented, the entire project will feature new war memorials, an enhanced museum for military artifacts, a new Veteran's Services Office, ceremonial areas, and military weaponry displays. For additional information contact the Hillsborough County Parks, Recreation and Conservation Department at (813) 744-5502.
