Tampa, FL -- A Hillsborough County park is temporarily closed to the public starting today while the county works on ongoing enhancements to the park.

According to county officials, work on the Hillsborough County Veterans Memorial Park and the Rear Admiral LeRoy Collins, Jr. Veterans Museum, 3602 N. U.S. Hwy 301 in Tampa, is scheduled to be completed by Memorial Day.

This portion of the project includes a new driveway and parking, improved walkways to access the future war memorials, and other park amenities.

In 2006, the Hillsborough County Board of County Commissioners established the Veterans Memorial Park Expansion Committee to facilitate the development of a master plan to honor those who have served in the armed forces of the United States.

Once fully completed, the entire project will feature new war memorials, an enhanced museum for military artifacts, a new Veteran's Services Office, ceremonial areas, and military weaponry displays.
