Hillsborough County Offers free ELAPP Calendar

Hillsborough County, Florida -- Hillsborough County is offering FREE 2014 Jan K. Platt Environmental Lands Acquisition and Protection Program (ELAPP) calendars at various Hillsborough County locations. The Calendar was developed through a photo contest that shows natural beauty at 60 Hillsborough County ELAPP sites.

FREE 2014 ELAPP Calendars are available starting Dec. 2 at the following locations. Only a limited number of calendars are available at each location.

Grants offered to strengthen Tampa Bay communities

Hillsborough County, Florida-- The Hillsborough County Office of Neighborhood Relations is now accepting applications for its 2014 Neighborhood Mini- Grant Program to strengthen the Tampa Bay communities.

Up to $2,500 Mini-grant awards will be available to assist and lend a helping hand in improving any Hillsborough County neighborhood or civic association, homeowner association (HOA) or neighborhood watch group recognized by a local law enforcement agency.  For-profit entities, non- neighborhood groups, and HOA’s controlled by developers are not eligible to apply.

Tampa Bay Watch, 100 volunteers to plant thousands of plants at Bahia Beach

Ruskin, FL – The Tampa Bay Watch and 100 community volunteers will be hard at work in Ruskin this weekend   planting over 20,000 salt marsh grass plugs to help the environment.

Their efforts are a part of  the Bahia Beach Habitat Restoration project, an ongoing initiative of TBW with a goal, reps say, of improving the habitat for native fish, invertebrates, birds and mammal species and restoring /offseting historical losses of wetlands in Tampa Bay.

Prescribed Burn: Rhodine Scrub Preserve

 

Riverview, Florida -- The Florida Forest Service will be conducting a prescribed burn today, April 23 at 12560 Rhodine Road in Riverview.

Officials say the burn will last one day. The purpose of the burn is for ecological site management and hazardous fuels reduction.

Earth Day tree planting dedication

Sebring, Florida -- In order to celebrate the opening of Downtown Sebring's Centennial Park there will be a tree planting and park dedication ceremony at 11:30 a.m. on April 22. 

The ceremony will be hosted by the Sebring Community Redevelopment Agency.

Volunteers needed at Highlands Hammock State Park

Volunteers needed at Highlands Hammock State Park

Highlands County, Florida-- The Florida Fish and Wildlife Conservation Commission’s (FWC) Ridge Rangers Program and Highlands Hammock State Park are looking for volunteers to help restore scrub jay habitat at the park on Friday, April 26 and Saturday, April 27. Volunteers can sign up for one or both days.
