Hillsborough County gives facelift to Fairgrounds!

Tampa, Florida-- Improvements to the Hillsborough County Fairgrounds launched in August 2012 continue as construction of a new, 20,000 squarefoot covered arena kicks off this month.

Officials say once it's finished, it will host exhibits and events.

And while that's exciting news, officials also say that's not the only project underway! In addition to the new arena, fairgrounds visitors can look forward to the following improvements:

  • Paved drive from Sydney Washer Road to the Fairgrounds parking area (complete)
  • Eight disabled access parking spaces (complete)
  • Grand stands improved for disabled access and safety (complete)
  • Water tank and hydrants for fire safety (complete)
  • Improved lighting to increase visibility and safety at night (complete)
  • Public restrooms at the covered arena, which will replace those currently onsite
  • Replace modular storage and office structures with 30 foot by 30 foot concrete masonry buildings

The county points out that some of the above projects have already been completed, and offers a timeline for those that are still underway:

  • Site improvements began in August 2012
  • Building construction begins in March 2013
  • The covered arena and public restrooms are scheduled for completion prior to the fair in the fall of 2013
  • The entire project, including the 30 foot by 30 foot office and storage structures, is expected to be complete around the end of 2013

These improvements are all part of a $2,000,000 project funded by the county’s Capital Improvement Program, and designed by Fleischman & Garcia Architects.
