Plant City, FL-- Plant City's 10th annual Pig Jam State BBQ Championship is this Saturday, followed by the Strawberry Classic Car Show in downtown.
Organizers say more than 70 teams from all over the country are coming to Plant City to compete for $16,500 in cash prizes, trophies, ribbons and bragging rights at this Kansas City Barbeque Society (KCBS) sanctioned competition.
The Greater Plant City Chamber of Commerce hosts the November 17 event from 10 a.m. until 5 p.m. at Randy L. Larson Softball Four-Plex, 1500 S. Park Rd. in Plant City. Admission is free; parking is $5.
Pig Jam will boast some of the best mouth-watering barbecue ribs, pork, brisket and chicken, along with egg rolls, nachos, stuffed potatoes, roasted corn, gator, funnel cakes and jalapeño poppers. Visitors can consult with the cooks on their barbecue techniques and enjoy live music performed by Ace Jackson and The Jump Kings, and the Candy Green Band.
Plus, the Hay Exchange, is hosting a raffle for a large Big Green Egg grill package, and a 50-quart YETI® cooler. Tickets are $10 each, on sale now at the Plant City Chamber, or at Pig Jam. Winners will be chosen at the conclusion of the event.
After Pig Jam, the public can motor over to historic downtown Plant City for the Strawberry Classic Car Show. Held the third Saturday of each month at 4pm, it's a chance to see antique cars and trucks, hot rods, low riders and specialty vehicles. It's all free, and downtown shops and restaurants will be open.
Pig Jam proceeds benefit the Greater Plant City Chamber of Commerce’s Scholarship Fund and other programs.
