Tampa men plead guilty to Charley's Steak House robbery

Tampa, FL -- On Thursday, July 7, 21-year-old Kyle Anthony Larson and 27-year-old Osvaldo Martinez, both from Tampa, pleaded guilty to the October 18, 2011, armed robbery of Charley's Steakhouse in Tampa, according to United States Attorney Robert E. O'Neill.

Larson and Martinez each face a maximum penalty of twenty years in federal prison on two counts and a mandatory minimum sentence of seven years on the third count, up to life imprisonment.

According to the plea agreement, on October 18, 2010, the armed robbery occurred at Charley's Steak House, located at 4444 West Cypress Street in Tampa, after it had closed for the evening.

Tampa man arrested for DUI-related death of 5-year-old girl

Tampa, FL -- On Friday night, July 1, 52-year-old Rolando Rojas, of 1220 East Crenshaw Street in Tampa, was involved in a serious traffic crash at the intersection of US Hwy 301 and Bloomingdale Avenue that sent several people to area hospitals.  

According to the FHP, during the initial portion of the investigation it was determined that Rojas had been driving under the influence and was placed under arrest at Tampa General Hospital.

He was being guarded there while he received medical care for injuries he sustained in the crash.   

Following his release from TGH, Rojas was taken to the Hillsborough County/Orient Road Jail where additional charges were filed against him following the death of 5-year-old victim, Lilly Mills, of Brandon, on Saturday, July 2.

Tampa, FL -- Tampa police arrested a city employee Tuesday after he received money to help pick up illegally dumped yard waste while on the job.

According to police, a witness called 911 on Tuesday at 11:34 a.m. to report a pick-up truck dumping yard waste at a vacant lot on 4706 E. 18th Avenue in Tampa.

Moments later, City of Tampa Solid Waste trucks arrived and an employee picked up the waste while under Dwight D. Rivera's supervision.

A detective later interviewed Rivera who admitted to police accepting $40 from a friend who has a hauling business. Police say Rivera told the friend to dump the yard waste in the lot where he later had his crew pick it up.

Gibsonton, Florida -- An attacker apparently broke into a Gibsonton home early Monday with the goal of finding and killing Nicole Williams, investigators said.

Williams, 36, was one of two adults who were with four children inside the home on Lake Vista Dr. at around 4 a.m. Monday, Hilllsborough Sheriff's Office spokesman J.D. Callaway said.

That's when an attacker broke in and went after Williams, killing her in a bedroom of the home, Callaway said.

The children are described as teenaged. It's not clear what they may have seen, Callaway said. Detectives are interviewing them now.

Tampa, FL -- Hillsborough County Sheriff's Office detectives arrested Oscar Trejo and seized the firearm used in the shooting of a 17-year-old boy Tuesday night.

During the last several days, HCSO detectives have been aggressively tracking Oscar Trejo who was wanted for Attempt Murder Charges in connection with the shooting of a boy in Clair Mel City.

According to police, on Friday, July 1, at 11 a.m., Trejo accompanied by his attorney turned himself in to detectives.

Thousands in merchandise stolen from Target, resold at local body shop

Tampa, FL -- An undercover investigation in Hillsborough County unveiled thousands of dollars in stolen property from local Target stores being sold out of a Tampa paint and body shop.

In the beginning of June 2011, HCSO detectives received information from investigators with the Target Corp. about an individual stealing from multiple Target stores and reselling the stolen property to D&L Paint & Auto Body, 401 E. Henderson Avenue in Tampa. 

According to detectives, they began an undercover operation using new merchandise provided by Target to sell as stolen merchandise to D&L Paint and Body Shop.

During the investigation, detectives began selling the stolen items to a man later identified as 47-year-old Dwight Wilson, of Tampa.  Wilson soon began instructing undercover detectives on what types of stolen property he wanted so he could sell the items in the future.

Tampa, FL -- Crime Stoppers of Tampa Bay is offering a reward of up to $1,000 for information that leads to the identification and arrest of the unknown man responsible for burglarizing the Shell Gas Station located at 5705 Gunn Highway in northwest Hillsborough County.  

According to police, at approximately 1:20 a.m., on Sunday, June 26, the man forcibly entered the business by shattering one the glass doors to the business, removed an undetermined amount of property and fled through the same, shattered door. 

While inside the business, the suspect's photo was taken by surveillance cameras located within the business.
