Plant City Police shoot home invasion suspect

Plant City, Florida -- UPDATE: An attempted traffic stop of a home invasion suspect ended with the suspect being shot in front of a Plant City pizza restaurant on Tuesday morning.

According to police, around 5:20 a.m., officers learned of a home invasion robbery at 1501 Hunter St., in Plant City, where a man, later identified as 25-year-old Jacob Munt, had broken into the home and threatened to shoot the residents if they didn't give him any cash they had on them.

Then nearly an hour later, police say they received a report of another home invasion robbery at 1421 Oakwood Lane where the resident's car was stolen. The description of the man matched that of the earlier robbery.

Tampa, FL -- Tampa Police detectives have made an arrest involving the death of a Northeast Tampa man on June 29.

Blood, collected at the scene of the home on 4008 East Paris St. where 49-year-old Nelson Carillo was found stab to death, came back with a match in the Florida Department of Law Enforcement's database.

Charles Edward Chambers, 36, of 1905 Annona Ave., was identified as the suspect. Police say he also pawned a piece of the victim's jewelry.

Mom claiming insanity in slaying of teens

TAMPA, Florida (AP) - A Florida woman accused of killing her two teenage children will use an insanity defense.

Her public defenders filed their intention late Friday to claim that 50-year-old Julie Schenecker couldn't discern right from wrong when she shot each of the teens twice in the head on Jan. 27.

The filing said Schenecker was suffering from "bipolar disorder with psychotic features."

Police search for serial armed robbery suspect

Tampa, FL -- The Hillsborough County Sheriff's Office needs the public's help identifying the man responsible for a series of armed burglaries (10 in all) in Hillsborough, Pinellas Park, St. Petersburg and Tampa.

Police say in each of the robberies the man entered the building, either displaying a weapon or implying that he had a weapon, and after getting the money, fleeing on foot.

The man is described as 6' to 6'3" of unknown age, 200 lbs., with a medium build and black hair. The suspect may have an unknown tattoo or birth mark under his left eye. He covers his face with some type of bandana.

Man arrested in fatal Lithia accident

Lithia, Florida - The Hillsborough County Sheriff's office says 51-year-old Lithia resident Brian Alton McGriff died late Tuesday night after his car was rear-ended by a drunk man.

Sadly, the accident happened about a mile and a half from his home.

Deputies say McGriff was going north on Highway 39 just before 11 p.m., when Jeff Blair rear-ended his Honda just south of Old Welcome Road with a 2001 Ford F250.
