Traffic crash leads to drug arrest

Brandon, FL -- A Lithia man was caught with a backpack full of cash and marijuana after his motorcycle crashed into a car Wednesday.

According to police, on Sept. 28, at approximately 1:41 p.m., 25-year-old Michael Carter was heading north on Lithia Pinecrest Road, approaching Bloomingdale Avenue, in the inside left turn lane. 

When Carter noticed traffic in front of him was stopped, he slammed on his brakes causing him to skid and lose control of his motorcycle.  Carter's motorcycle fell on its side and slid into the back of a woman's Ford Focus.

Serial bank robber found in Queens

Tampa, FL -- The Hillsborough County Sheriff's Office announced today the U.S. Marshal's Service arrested Kevin Brain Jackson in Queens, NY.

According to the sheriff's office, Jackson was found in a boarding house and is currently in jail in Queens. He was arrested without incident.

The U.S. Marshals were able to find Jackson based on leads HCSO detectives gave them about his location.

Lithia, FL -- Hillsborough County detectives are trying to locate this woman who they say was the last person to have contact with the 51-year-old man who died in a car accident on July 26.

The woman is described as Asian, 45-50 years old, 5'0 - 5'2", 120 lbs., with black hair and brown eyes. She was last seen wearing a blue ball cap with a white bill, a white shirt, and a blue and black backpack. She may be riding a red cruiser-type bicycle. Her first name is Michelle.

According to sheriff's office, the accident occured at the intersection of CR 39 and Old Highway Road at approximately 11 p.m.

UT students robbed at gunpoint

Tampa, FL -- Tampa Police are searching for three men who robbed three University of Tampa students Sunday morning while they were walking home from a party.

According to police, the three students were walking home from a party south on Dale Mabry around 12:30 a.m. Sunday, Sept. 18, when two of the robbers jumped out from behind telephone poles near Ross Avenue.

One of the robbers pointed a gun at a student and the other punched another student. The robbers took the students' wallets and took off. An hour after the robbery, police say two of the robbers used the students' credit cards at the 7-Eleven at 2302 West Waters Ave. (The above video is the store's surveillance footage.)

Police investigate storm drain thefts

Plant City, FL -- The Plant City Police Department is investigating the theft of six cast iron storm drain covers taken from the intersection of Walden Woods Drive and Tillman Place sometime between Friday, Sept. 9 and the morning hours of Saturday, Sept. 10.

The drains weigh approximately two to three-hundred pounds apiece and each is valued at $500.

Anyone with information about the theft, or may have seen any suspicious activity in the area of Walden Woods Drive and Tillman Place on Friday night or early Saturday morning, is encouraged to contact Sergeant James Shultz at (813) 757-9200.

Police identify serial bank robber

Tampa, FL -- Hillsborough County Sheriff's Office detectives say they have identified the man they believe is responsible for three bank robberies in the Tampa area.

Detectives say 34-year-old Kevin Brian Jackson robbed the Sun Trust Bank at 6925 North 56th Street on June 14, the Regions Bank at 11804 Bruce B Downs Blvd. on Aug. 1, and the same Sun Trust Bank again on Sept. 2.

Police search for driver in fatal hit-and-run

Tampa, FL -- The Hillsborough County Sheriff's Office is still searching for the driver involved in a hit-and-run Monday that killed a motorcyclist.

According to police, on Sept. 5 at approximately 8:58 p.m., Jose Valdez, of Clermont, was heading south on 78th Street in the left lane a high rate of speed. When Valdez, 35, came to the intersection at the exit ramp of the Selmon Crosstown he hit a tractor trailer.

The tractor trailer took off and Valdez died at the scene. He was wearing a helmet.
