Standoff with man who fired shots inside apartment ends peacefully

Tampa, Florida -- Tampa Police officers were in a standoff with a man who refused to leave his apartment after officers say he fired several shots inside.

Officers initially went to the home to conduct a welfare check on the resident, who lives in the Carriage Place apartment complex in the Arbor Greene subdivision on Arbor Run Drive. 

The Tactical Response Team responded as well.

Eventually, the person inside surrendered and was taken for a mental health evaluation. No one was hurt and names have not yet been released. 

Teacher arrested on child neglect, drug charges

Tampa, Florida -- A Bay area teacher is thrown in the slammer after police say they found pot, not only in the mother's home, but in her young son's room.

Forty-seven-year-old Tracy Domante has been a teacher at Seffner Elementary since 2004, but on Friday night that all changed.

Tampa Police conducted a search warrant at Domante's home located off Barcelona Street and found a large amount of drugs including marijuana. Domante faces numerous drug possession charges as well as intent to sell and child neglect.

Man sentenced to life for murder of teen siblings

Tampa, Florida -- The man convicted of the first degree murder of two Tampa teenage siblings during a home invasion in 2011 was sentenced to life in prison without the possibility of parole Friday.

Neighbors, parents react to shooting near schools

Brandon, Florida -- Tense moments in eastern Hillsborough County Thursday morning after five schools in the Brandon area had to be placed on lockdown.

On Thursday, Hillsborough County Sheriff's deputies searched for the suspects involved in the 7:00 a.m. shooting that took place just down the block from an elementary school, just as the kids were showing up for classes.

Man accused of killing, cooking family puppy on trial

Tampa, Florida -- A man accused of strangling and cooking a puppy is on trial Thursday.

Investigators say back in June, 25-year-old Thomas Huggins strangled the young pit bull mix, Bandit, and then chopped him up, put the remains in the freezer and cooked the dog's ribs in a pot on the stove.

Child accidentally shoots aunt, gun's owner sought

Tampa, Florida -- Hillsborough Sheriff's deputies are searching for the man who left two children alone in a van with a gun that accidentally went off shooting a woman in the back. 

Deputies say on Oct. 21, Randall Simmons was in the back row of seats in a Ford SUV that was parked in a parking lot in the 9000 block of Adamo Drive. 

3 arrested in shooting where victim collapsed at steakhouse

Tampa, Florida -- Three suspects have been arrested in the robbery where the victim was shot and ran to a nearby steakhouse for help, where he later collapsed. 

Authorities say the unidentified man was at the Howard Johnson Hotel on N. Dale Mabry Highway when two men reportedly confronted him at the hotel armed with a pistol and robbed him.

Tampa Police officers say a struggle ensued and the man was shot in the wrist. He also suffered an injury to his face, but police don't yet know how that injury occurred.
