Rape reported on USF campus

Tampa, Florida -- At USF on Wednesday, jugglers took center grass in front of the Marshall Center, pins and balls flying through the air.

But across campus where students live, police are investigating something much more weighty. A female student reports being raped early Sunday morning inside the Holly G residence hall.

"The individuals do know each other. This is not a stranger situation and we continue to investigate what the next course of action will be," said Lt. Charlotte Domingo of the USF Police Department.

Tampa Police search for arsonist

Mango, Florida -- Tampa Police are searching for an arson suspect they say set fire to a home on Bird Street late Tuesday night.

Tampa Fire responded to the fire around 11 p.m. and when they arrived to the single-family home they reported about 50 percent of the home was engulfed in flames. Firefighters quickly contained the fire and did not find anyone inside. 

The estimated damage to the home is $6,500.

17-year-old charged in girlfriend's death

RIVERVIEW, Florida (AP) - A 17-year-old who said his girlfriend shot herself in the chest has been charged with her murder after the Hillsborough County Medical Examiner found that the girl was shot in the back.

The Tampa Bay Times reports the teen has been charged with second-degree murder. Sara Gonzalez died after being shot Friday night.

Drug deal gone bad ends with shooting at TPD district office

Tampa, Florida -- A drug deal gone bad resulted in a showdown outside a Tampa Police District Office and the arrest of two men Friday afternoon.

Tampa Police say Milton Coley met up with Louis Ruiz-Machado at 109th Avenue and Lantana Avenue to conduct a drug deal at 12:40 p.m. When Coley refused to pay Ruiz-Machado for the marijuana, Ruiz-Machado fired a shot and Coley ran off.

Coley then called for a friend to pick him up in the 200 block of Bougainvillea Avenue. As Coley got into his friend's Nissan Altima, Ruiz-Machado started chasing them in his pickup truck.

Man sets fire to ex-girlfriend's clothes

Tampa, Florida -- Tampa Police have arrested a man who they say intentionally set fire to his ex-girlfriend's clothes that spread into the home.

Police say on Thursday Fredrick Taylor doused clothing and other items in accelerant and set them on fire in the exterior laundry room of the home in the 1200 block of 99th Avenue which then spread to the rest of the home. Three people inside at the time were able to escape without injury.

Man hospitalized in Pasco Circle K shooting

Crystal Springs, Florida -- Pasco County Sheriff's detectives are investigating a gas station shooting that sent one man to the hospital Tuesday evening.

Deputies say around 6:08 p.m., 38-year-old Antyone Askew of Wesley Chapel, was shot multiple times at the Circle K in the 1400 block of Paul S. Buchman Highway in Crystal Springs. He was rushed to an area hospital with potential life threatening injuries.
