Plant City Police shoot home invasion suspect

Plant City, Florida -- UPDATE: An attempted traffic stop of a home invasion suspect ended with the suspect being shot in front of a Plant City pizza restaurant on Tuesday morning.

According to police, around 5:20 a.m., officers learned of a home invasion robbery at 1501 Hunter St., in Plant City, where a man, later identified as 25-year-old Jacob Munt, had broken into the home and threatened to shoot the residents if they didn't give him any cash they had on them.

Then nearly an hour later, police say they received a report of another home invasion robbery at 1421 Oakwood Lane where the resident's car was stolen. The description of the man matched that of the earlier robbery.

At approximately 6:20 a.m., officers saw the stolen car on Alexander Street and when they tried to pull the car over, Munt rammed his car into two patrol cars in front of ABC Pizza on North Alexander Street.

The officers opened fire on Munt, who was shot in his upper body. Munt was able to drive away, pursued by officers south, down Alexander.

Stop sticks were deployed, disabling the vehicle and Munt was taken into custody without further incident. He was taken to Lakeland Regional Medical Center for treatment. He is in stable condition at this time.

Investigators say Munt, from Orlando, is wanted for a series of home invasion robberies. As far police know at this time he has no connections in Plant City.

No officers were injured.
