Teacher arrested on child neglect, drug charges

Tampa, Florida -- A Bay area teacher is thrown in the slammer after police say they found pot, not only in the mother's home, but in her young son's room.

Forty-seven-year-old Tracy Domante has been a teacher at Seffner Elementary since 2004, but on Friday night that all changed.

Tampa Police conducted a search warrant at Domante's home located off Barcelona Street and found a large amount of drugs including marijuana. Domante faces numerous drug possession charges as well as intent to sell and child neglect.

"It's ridiculous," says Marshall Hartley, who lives down the street from Seffner Elementary and has a child of his own. "It's terrible. I didn't know something like this could happen so close to home."

What's worse, he says, is that the school district is still going to give her a paycheck.

"They're suppose to be looked up to and set good a example. Now, they are caught selling drugs. That's ridiculous."

The School District tells us anytime a teacher is arrested and sent to jail they are automatically suspended with pay until the school board can discuss the incident.

Domante was released from jail this morning after posting $11,000 bond.
