Tampa, Florida -- A man accused of strangling and cooking a puppy is on trial Thursday.

Investigators say back in June, 25-year-old Thomas Huggins strangled the young pit bull mix, Bandit, and then chopped him up, put the remains in the freezer and cooked the dog's ribs in a pot on the stove.

He faces a third-degree felony charge of animal cruelty. If convicted, he could spend up to five years in prison.
