UPDATE: Suspect captured in USF Tampa carjacking

Tampa, Florida -- Authorities say they've captured the man who carjacked a female staff member at USF Tampa campus Monday morning.

USF Police say the incident happened around 9:20 a.m. in Parking Lot 33 in the Health Services area of the Tampa campus.

The victim told police a white male -- wearing a white hoodie, possibly with brown hair and described as "dirty" looking -- displayed a small black handgun and ordered the them out of their car.

USF Police officers set up a perimeter and by tracking the victim's cell phone left in the car, were able to determine the vehicle was immediately driven off campus.

Surrounding agencies and the Tampa Police Department aviation unit helped locate the suspect in Marion County, where authorities said they arrested him after a police chase that ended with him crashing the car.

Marion deputies identify the suspect as 29-year-old Vladimir Matushevskiy. Matushevskiy was treated for minor K-9 bites and will remain in Marion County Jail until other counties arrange pickup.

Marion deputies tell 10 News Matushevskiy may not be the only person involved in the carjacking.

No other details have been released at this time.
