Man stabbed, another jumped at liquor store

Lake Placid, Florida -- The Highlands County Sheriff's Office is investigating the stabbing of one man, and the battery of another at a Lake Placid liquor store Sunday.

Deputies say 41-year-old Ernest Bristol told them he was jumped by several men inside the Highway Park Liquor Store at 101 Vision Street.

After interviewing Bristol, deputies later learned a second victim, 31-year-old Alonzo Miller Davis, was on his way to the hospital after sustaining a stab wound while at the store. He was later transferred to Lakeland Regional Medical Center with non-life threatening injuries.

Shortly after the attacks, the sheriff's office issued a BOLO, and a vehicle matching one leaving the scene was spotted by the DeSoto County Sheriff's Office.

The five occupants of the car were taken into custody and told investigators that while driving on State Road 70 a vehicle approached them from behind and fired shots at their car.

The investigation of these incidents is ongoing by both the Highlands County Sheriff's Office and the DeSoto County Sheriff's Office. Anyone with information is requested to contact the Highlands County Sheriff's Office Criminal Investigations Unit and Detective Nathan Coogan at 863-402-7341. Anyone with information who wants to remain anonymous and be eligible for a cash reward is asked to call Heartland Crime Stoppers at 1-800-226-TIPS (8477).
