Good Samaritan Helps Make Holidays Brighter for Koch Elementary Families

Good Samaritan Helps Make Holidays Brighter for Koch Elementary Families

Riverview, FL -- Eight families of students who attend Koch Elementary School will have a brighter holiday this year thanks to a good Samaritan in a restaurant who struck up conversation with Koch Elementary Principal Stephanie Small.

The school held a successful canned food drive and purchased turkeys before winter break to brighten the holidays for six Koch families, but was unable to coordinate efforts that would allow staff to “adopt” students and purchase toys and clothing.

“We have many students who have great needs that are not met, especially during this time of the year,” said Ms. Small.

Tampa, FL - Hillsborough County along with the city of Tampa will remember those who died alone on the streets of our community today during the annual Homeless Persons' Memorial service.

Held annually by the Homeless Coalition of Hillsborough County, this year's service will be held in Joe Chillura Courthouse Square in downtown Tampa (across from County Center, 601 E. Kennedy Blvd.) at 6 p.m.

"This memorial service is to honor and remember the lives of our neighbors - our homeless neighbors," said Rayme Nuckles, CEO of the Homeless Coalition of Hillsborough County. "This is the only memorial service most of our homeless neighbors will ever have."

Ryan Nece gives Hillsborough kids something to smile about

Tampa, FL -- Dozens of teens were treated to some special holiday fun Sunday afternoon thanks to former Tampa Bay Buc Ryan Nece.

Nece and his foundation held two events for Hillsborough County kids who've been abused, neglected or abandoned. The boys played laser tag, while the girls had a party at Neiman Marcus. They made their own jewelry and had their makeup done.

"To see the smiles on those girls faces after they get those makeovers, from their heads hanging down to their heads up with bright smiles, it's priceless," Ryan Nece said.

The kids were also given gifts, which they'll be able to open on Christmas morning.
