Riverview, FL -- Make May Moffitt Month is a monthlong endeavor to raise cancer awareness and funds for cancer research at Moffitt Cancer Center.

In May, Moffitt will partner with businesses and individuals throughout the Tampa Bay area to offer promotions and cancer education.

Buffalo Wild Wings in Brandon, Riverview, Fort Myers, Lakeland, Sarasota and North Port is offering customers an opportunity to purchase a $5 Make May Moffitt Month bracelet and receive 10 percent off their bill. All proceeds will benefit Moffitt.

Community businesses unite to pull off Mother's Day makeover

Direct Effect Fitness recently announced its Makeover a Mom contest. Just in time for mother’s day, this contest aims to reward one local mom with a total body makeover.

“My mom means a great deal to me and she’s the kind of mom that will spend all day every day taking care of others. It can be a challenge to get her to spend time on herself” says Allan Keller, owner of Direct Effect Fitness and creator of the Makeover a Mom contest.

Keller continues, “I know there are a lot of moms out there like mine, so I wanted to try to do something to say thank you and give a little back.”

Keller sought out other business owners in the Westchase area to help put together an incredible makeover package which includes fitness, beauty and spa services as well as a night out in Westchase. The winning mom’s total makeover will include:

Local photographers needed to help grieving families

Tampa, FL -- Now I Lay Me Down To Sleep, a national non-profit organization dedicated to serving families who have recently lost or will soon lose a newborn, is in search of volunteers and offers its services to the Tampa Bay Area. 

Founded in 2005, volunteer photographers go to area hospitals and take family portraits in hopes of creating memories of the newly lost. All services are free which include any retouching, discs of images, and slideshows for the service.

Now I Lay Me Down to Sleep of Tampa Bay offers its services just in time for Mother’s Day to honor all mothers who leave hospitals with empty arms.

Award winning country music band hosts charity dog wash

Tampa, FL -- The Band Perry with Purina Dog Chow will host a charity dog wash, open to the public, with proceeds benefitting The Humane Society of Tampa Bay this Friday, April 29!

Local residents are encouraged to bring their dogs – especially if they are in need of a good bath. The band will interact with fans, sign autographs, and give away CDs and concert tickets before pitching in to wash local dogs.

The band will hang out fans and have an autograph session from 11:30 a.m. - 12:30 p.m.

Ybor Chamber to host annual golf outing

Tampa, FL -- The Ybor City Chamber of Commerce is preparing to hold its 6th Annual Golf Tournament at the Temple Terrace Golf & Country Club on Monday, May 16.

The Chamber Tournament benefits the Lois Gaston Scholarship at Hillsborough County Community College.

Tournament check-in begins at 11 a.m. with a shotgun-start at 1 p.m. 

Lunch featuring Ybor fair from Carmine's and a Cuban-themed dinner are included.
