USF Student Veterans’ Leader Set to Begin 4,000 mile Cross-Country Bicycle Journey

TAMPA, Florida – One University of South Florida student won’t be spending her summer taking classes or preparing for her future career through an internship.  Instead, Kiersten Downs will embark on a much different adventure: riding her bicycle across the country, nearly 4,000 miles, to raise money and awareness for student veterans.

New Tampa, Florida -- Habitat for Humanity will be framing up a home at The Shops at Wiregrass on May 17th and May 18th from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m.

The two day event is to challenge local businesses and individuals to donate or volunteer in the effort to eliminate poverty housing in our area. The walls raised will be disassembled, in sections, and taken to the 1st Habitat home site in Wesley Chapel and raised.

Mail carriers collect food for Stamp Out Hunger Food Drive!

Carrollwood, Florida - Mail carriers will take part in the Stamp Out Hunger Food Drive.

Residents can leave non-perishable food item by their mailbox and the letter carrier will pick it up. The food will be donated to food banks to distribute to needy citizens.

Last year, over 70-million pounds of food was donated across the country.

If you cannot leave food items by your mailbox, you can drop it by your local post office.

"Heart of a Champion" scholarship to help 66 Hillsborough seniors

Hillsborough County, Florida-- An upcoming, exciting event will honor some of Hillsborough County's high school senior athletes, and award them with scholarships for displaying hard work, determination and true spirit.

The "Heart of a Champion" scholarship will go to one male, and one female student athlete from 33 Hillsborough County schools who have demonstrated what “heart” is all about, event organizers explained Wednesday.
