Volunteers needed for 2012 tax season | Community Spirit
Hillsborough County, FL -- The United Way of Tampa Bay needs volunteers now to help prepare tax returns for low and moderate income Hillsborough and Pinellas County residents January through April 2012.
No experience is necessary. Volunteers will receive free training in 2011 from local tax prep experts. Training will be provided in the classroom, online or a combination of both during October, November and December 2011.
Tax preparation will take place January through April 2012. Volunteers will prepare and e-file federal returns based on information provided by the taxpayer and by asking tax-related questions.
They will help working families understand their eligibility for the Earned Income Tax Credit, Child Tax Credit and other benefits as well as help connect them to other resources where necessary.
Volunteer requirements include basic computer skills, a desire to help low and moderate income families, the ability to work with people from varied backgrounds, and a willingness to commit to at least two to four hours per week at a designated location from mid-January through mid-April. Tax preparation sites will be open weekdays, evenings and weekends.
Volunteers are also needed to assist at the sites by greeting taxpayers, verifying information and helping them complete necessary forms. In addition, bilingual volunteers are needed to serve as interpreters. No formal training is required for these roles. Hours needed are the same as the tax preparers.
