Riverview, Florida - Earlier this year, local educator Erin Anderson set out to provide a service project for the students at St. Stephen Catholic School at 10424 St. Stephen Circle in Riverview.

Needy shelter pets at the county animal shelter became the benefactors of the children's "Coin Crusade" and Anderson hoped the coin drive might exceed a hundred dollars.

But recently the students presented a check for more than $1,200.00 to Friends of Hillsborough County Animal Services or FoHCAS (the 501c3 non-profit organization founded by county shelter volunteers).

Organizers say all of the money raised by St. Stephen School is going to be used for medical needs of shelter pets so that they may be more easily adopted.

The shelter at 440 N. Falkenburg Road in Tampa, is open daily from 10 a.m. until 7 p.m. You can call (813) 744-5660 for more information.
