Riverview, Florida - America's Blood Centers are honoring Riverview High School with the "School Blood Drive Award" in honor of a very notable number of blood donations made over the past five years!

According to a release sent regarding Rivierview High's honor, the school has hosted five blood drives a year for five years- resulting in over 7,000 blood donations!

Florida Blood Services, a division of OneBlood, Inc., is proud to announce that Riverview High School has won the "School Blood Drive Award" in a competition sponsored by America's Blood Centers(ABC).

The award was presented on March 18, 2013 at the 16th Annual Awards of Excellence banquet held in Washington, DC, during the 51st Annual ABC meeting.

The award will be presented to student donors during a recognition celebration at 2 p.m. in the Riverview High school cafeteria on Thursday, April 4, 2013. 

Over the past five years, Riverview students, staff, participating alumni and parents have given a total of 7,011 blood donations.

The school hosts 5 blood drives during each school year.

Principal Bob Heilmann has 8 gallon blood donor and he is always the first donor on one of the 8 attending bloodmobiles.

The blood drives are sponsored and promoted by members of the Student Government Association, under the leadership of their faculty advisor Laura Hike.

The blood drive committee recruits students to give blood, coordinates the flow of donors during the drives and sponsors a cookout to feed all those who share their 'Gift of Life'.
