WOW honors 7 scholars

Tampa, Florida --   The World of Westchase has recognized seven Westchase scholars.

The students are not only being honored for their academic excellence, but what they have done to give back to the community.

They were each awarded with a $2,000 scholarship from the World of Westchase, Inc..

This year's WOW Scholars are:

James A. Haley Veterans' Hospital to hire 15+

Tampa, Florida-- Secretary of Veterans Affairs Eric K. Shinseki announced the addition of approximately 1,600 mental health clinicians and close to 300 support staff to the current workforce. 

As a part of this initiative, James A. Haley Veterans' Hospital (JAHVH) seeks 13 clinicians and 3 support personnel to support mental health operations at JAHVH.  

According to a recent release from the hospital, JAHVH received funding and commenced recruitment for qualified individuals.

Plant City, Florida-- Though PC Home Maintenance has been open for the past couple of years, the Greater Plant City Chamber of Commerce gave them a proper welcome to the community at their ribbon cutting last month.

PC Home Maintenance works to provide home owners with basic, necessary residential upkeep to prevent the expensive home repairs that come from neglect.

Public hearing over controversial TECO power poles Thursday

Tampa, FL --  A controversial plan to install 75-to-115-foot tall concrete power poles along Adamo Drive will be discussed during a public meeting with TECO on Thursday June 14.

Ybor City Development Corporation member David Scott tells 10 News he fears the poles will stifle future development on the south side of the Latin Quarter.

Scott says TECO plans to install the poles on the north side of Adamo between around 13th Street all the way to 19th Street.

Tampa, Florida– Today the Greater Tampa Chamber of Commerce announced the semifinalists for the 2012 Small Business of the Year Awards to be held on Friday, September 28 at the Tampa Convention Center, presented by Sam’s Club.

These awards highlight the impact of small business on the community and celebrate the achievements of the best of the best in Tampa Bay.

Food Truck Fiesta takes off

Tampa, Florida -- About this time each month, Downtown Tampa is taken over by nearly a dozen food trucks.

The Mayor's Food Truck Fiesta is held the first Wednesday of the month and so far it has been a huge hit.

Food Truck Fiesta began last November and can draw as many as 1,500 people to Lykes Gaslight Square Park. There are spaces for 11 trucks and the goal is to introduce three new businesses each month.
