Tampa, Florida-- Secretary of Veterans Affairs Eric K. Shinseki announced the addition of approximately 1,600 mental health clinicians and close to 300 support staff to the current workforce. 

As a part of this initiative, James A. Haley Veterans' Hospital (JAHVH) seeks 13 clinicians and 3 support personnel to support mental health operations at JAHVH.  

According to a recent release from the hospital, JAHVH received funding and commenced recruitment for qualified individuals. 

VA currently employs 20,696 mental health staff-members from nurses, psychiatrists,and psychologists, to social workers. 

Locally, JAHVH employees 175 mental health clinicians and support staff  to support more than 85,000 unique visits and more than 1,000,000 Outpatient visits.

With the addition of new staff, JAHVH plans to expand their reach to even more veterans within the Bay area. 

The VA says they, "anticipate the majority of mental health clinicians and support staff will be hired locally within approximately six months and the most hard-to-fill positions filled by the end of the second quarter of FY 2013."
