Author Donald J. Green kicks off Four Seasons Author Series

Tampa, FL -- The Friends of the Library of Tampa-Hillsborough County will celebrate Part 1 of the lunch and lecture Four Seasons Author Series with Donald J. Green.

Green is the author of Third Party Matters: Politics, Presidents and Third Parties in American History, and drew an overflow crowd at the 2010 Festival of Reading in St. Petersburg.

The lunch and lecture Four Seasons Author Series kicks off Friday, Feb. 4 at noon at the University Club, 38th Floor, One Tampa City Center in downtown Tampa.

Tickets are $30 for a onetime event, and $100 for a subscription to the four part series.

'Ace of Cakes' star comes to USF

Tampa, Fla--Celebrity baker Duff Goldman is coming to Tampa to talk about his experiences as a chef and more recently, his starring roles in TV and Film.

Goldman is most known for his Food Network shows 'Ace of Cakes' and 'The Best Thing I Ever Ate.'

You can see Duff Goldman at the USF Marshall Center Ballroom on January 26th at 8:30 p.m. as part of the University Lecture Series.

The event is free and open to the public.

Award-winning Clarinetist to perform at HCC Ybor

Tampa, FL -- Award-winning clarinetist, Mark Gallagher, will perform in concert Sunday, Jan. 23 as part of the Visual and Performing Arts Series Chamber Music Ybor offerings.


The performance is scheduled for 3 p.m. on the Hillsborough County Community College Ybor campus.


An active chamber musician and co-founder of I Venti Semplice, Gallagher will be assisted by Frank Corliss on piano and Kenneth Kwo on viola.

Cigar City Brewing holds beer label design contest

Tampa, FL -- Tampa Bay artists are being asked to design a label for Cigar City Brewing's newest beer, Tocobaga Red Ale.


CCB along with Hampton Arts Management say the contest is open to artists living in Hernando, Hillsborough, Pasco and Pinellas counties.


The winning artist will be given $500 and a free case of Tocobaga Red Ale.

Civil War exhibit now open at Tampa Bay History Center

Tampa, FL -- If you are a Civil War Buff, there is a new exhibit at the Tampa Bay History Center, 803 Old Water St., in downtown Tampa called "Blue and Grey in Tampa Bay: The Civil War on Florida's Gulf Coast".


Among the exhibits are a cannon ball launched from a Union Navy ship in the living room of the Ferris Home in 1862. It was one of several bombardments of Tampa. After the attack, the Ferris family never bothered to repair it.


The cannon ball, along with Civil War-era maps, weaponry, photographs and reproduction uniforms will be on exhibit during Blue and Gray in Tampa Bay.

HCC features new art exhibit

Tampa, FL -- The Tampa Bay Black Heritage Art Festival and Hillsborough Community College is featuring an exhibition by Jacksonville-based artist, Adrian Pickett.

Pickett's exhibit of works in the charcoal medium will be on display at the HCC Dale Mabry Campus from Jan. 18 to March 2 and is free to the public.

Times run Monday-Thursday from 10:00 a.m. to 7:00 p.m. and Friday & Saturday from 10:00 a.m. to 2 p.m.

Tampa project creating original works for Broadway

Tampa, FL  -- A Tampa theater is creating original works for Broadway.


The creators of the Broadway Genesis Project want Tampa to become known for creating shows outside the harsh spotlight of New York. The initiative is run by the Straz Center for the Performing Arts.


Its first show is "Wonderland - A New Alice. A New Musical." It debuts on Broadway in April. The $15-million production is now showing in Tampa and also had a run in Houston.
