Senior art class

Valrico, Florida -- A youth art class at the local YMCA was so successful that it recently created significant interest from the Silver Sneakers program for senior Y members.

Classes will be taught by Minnette Webster, who also leads the youth instruction, beginning Thursday, March 17, 2011, from 11:00 a.m. - 12:00 p.m. The class will then meet the second and third Friday of the month, covering a variety of art genres.

The Cambo Family YMCA is located at 3414 Culbreath Rd in Valrico.

Celebrate the Oscars at the Tampa Theater in Downtown

Tampa, Florida -- If you love movies and would like to be part of the Oscar excitement, you can view the 83rd Academy Awards from 6:30 to 11:30 pm Sunday, February 27th at the Tampa Theater 711 N. Franklin Street in Downtown Tampa.

The event, which is officially sanctioned by the Academy of Motion  Pictures Arts and Sciences, features red carpet festivities as people go into the theater, food, and wine samples. The Awards ceremony will be shown on the screen at the classic Tampa Theater. 

Broadway comes to town

Plant City, Florida -- A little slice of Broadway is coming to town.

"Tribute to Broadway" will be performed at the Church of Scientology Life Improvement Center at 8:00 p.m. tomorrow, February 26.

The production comes to town under the direction of Al Cohen of Plant City.

Tickets are still available and costs $10 at the door.

Tampa, FL -- Four-time Grammy winner and Jazz legend Arturo Sandoval is scheduled to perform at the Ritz Ybor tonight, Feb. 24.


Tickets start at $25 with the concert set to begin at 7 p.m.

Tampa, FL -- Although Valentine's Day has come and gone, if you still want to celebrate the festival of love, or are a history buff trying to figure out how some of our most popular holidays evolved, the Henry B. Plant Museum has an exhibit for you.


The museum is holding an the exhibit through the end of the month featuring a collection of antique valentines from the late 19th and early 20th centuries.


Samples of this treasured paper ephemera will be on display in cabinets.


Themes often included pictures of children and cherubs, cupids and arrows, hearts, forget-me-nots, lush cabbage roses, bits of lace, feathers, seashells and dried flowers - all intertwined with sentimental messages.

Modern Art Exhibit getting set to close at art museum

Tampa, FL -- An exhibit of Modern Art at the Tampa Museum will be open for only a few more weeks.


The American Modernism From The Collection of Dr. and Mrs. Mark Kauffman, which has been at the museum since Jan. 8, will close at the end of this month.


The exhibit features approximately 60 works. 


American Modernism examines the developments in American art from the 1910s through the latter decades of the 20th century with special emphasis placed on the struggle between a lingering representational mode and an emerging modernist aesthetic.

Noted Pianist to perform in Ybor today

Noted Pianist to perform in Ybor today

Tampa, FL -- Noted Pianist Genadi Zagor is scheduled to perform today on the Hillsborough Community College Ybor City campus as part of the school's Visual and Performing Arts Series.


The Russian born Zagor will perform songs by Stravinsky, Mussorgsky and other.


The concert will be in the Performing Arts Building of the HCC Ybor City campus which is located at the corner of E. Palm Ave. and N. 14th Street.


The recital is set to begin at 3 p.m.
