Local children have the opportunity to perform with professionals in the Opera Tampa production of Bizet’s Carmen!

Auditions for the Opera Tampa Children’s Chorus of Tampa will be held Monday, Oct. 28 beginning at 5 p.m. in the Rehearsal Hall at the David A. Straz, Jr. Center for the Performing Arts in downtown Tampa.

Boys with unchanged voices and girls and grades 2 through 8 are needed. Rehearsals will be held on Mondays from 5 to 6 p.m. beginning November 18 at the Straz Center’s Patel Conservatory. Staging rehearsals will begin Sunday, Feb. 16 and performance dates are March 14 at 8 p.m. and March 16 at 2 p.m. For a full list of all required rehearsals, visit: www.patelconservatory.org/pdfs/OTCC_Rehearsal_1314.

To sign up their children, parents or guardians should contact Kavanaugh Gillespie at kavanaugh.gillespie@strazcenter.org or call 813.222.6452 to reserve a five minute time slot. During their auditions, children will be asked to vocalize with the piano and read a short musical excerpt to assess their aural and reading skills.

Selected students must register for course number OTCC13-00 at the Patel Conservatory, tuition $25 (scholarships available, restrictions apply).  In addition, students that complete all rehearsal and performance requirements will receive a $50 scholarship towards another Patel Conservatory music class.
