Opening ceremony kicks Cultural Arts Festival off today

Plant City, FL - The Plant City Dr. MLK Cultural Arts Festival, which will run from today until Jan. 17, is known for promoting increased diversity awareness and opportunities for citizens of Plant City to engage in gaining knowledge for the past 26 years. The opening ceremony will take place today at 11:30 a.m. at the Plant City MLK Recreation Center at 1601 East Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. Blvd.

Today's event will feature Pastor Carl McKay, the Lincoln Elementary IB Choir, and Gentlemen's Quest of Marshall Middle School, and is sponsored by Buddy Freddy's and Fred's Market Restaurant.

The history of African culture will be emphasized throughout the festival by participating in various cultural activities in partnership with the Tampa Bay Black Heritage Festival, to include a city parade, midway, concerts, forums, leadership breakfast, community service projects and educational information and tours of the Plant City Bing Rooming House, an African American Community Museum.

The Plant City MLK Festival is hosted and organized by the Improvement League of Plant City, Inc., in partnership with the Tampa Bay Black Heritage Festival, every year as part of its dedication to provide educational, social and cultural resources to the Plant City Community.
