Woman gets 20 years for fatal motorcycle crash

TAMPA, Florida (AP) - A Tampa Bay area woman has been sentenced to 20 years in prison for leaving the scene of a motorcycle crash that left two people dead.

A Hillsborough County judge sentenced 53-year-old Susanne Meyers on Thursday.

Tampa Bay Watch, 100 volunteers to plant thousands of plants at Bahia Beach

Ruskin, FL – The Tampa Bay Watch and 100 community volunteers will be hard at work in Ruskin this weekend   planting over 20,000 salt marsh grass plugs to help the environment.

Their efforts are a part of  the Bahia Beach Habitat Restoration project, an ongoing initiative of TBW with a goal, reps say, of improving the habitat for native fish, invertebrates, birds and mammal species and restoring /offseting historical losses of wetlands in Tampa Bay. 

Teacher caught with pot at junior high

Hardee County, Florida-- A Hardee Junior High teacher was arrested Tuesday after she was caught with marijuana on campus. 

According to a Hardee County Sheriff's report, someone told officials that the teacher, 26-year-old Katherine Landress of Avon Park, had the drugs inside her car parked at the school. 

A K9 narcotics dog at the scene alerted deputies to Landress' car after sniffing out the scent, and a search revealed her possession of both, marijuana and drug paraphernalia.
