Flavors of Tampa Bay: First Choice Southern BBQ

Flavors of Tampa Bay: First Choice Southern BBQ

Tampa, Florida - A line of hungry customers lining up outside your restaurant is a really good sign that you are doing something right. From 11 a.m. until about 1 p.m. that's what you will find. The good news is that the line moves fast.

First Choice Southern BBQ, owned by Roger Storr, has created a loyal following after producing top notch barbecue for the past 18 years. Try some Smoked Pork, Ribs or Chicken with a side of Collard Greens or spicy Mac and Cheese.

The sauce is as important as the meat, and both are outstanding. Storr is the only person who knows what goes into the sauce. His customers want him to start selling it by the bottle, but he say's that he is not in the sauce business, he's in the bar-b-que business.

First Choice BBQ has two locations:

10113 Adamo Dr., Tampa

Senator wants to kill agency she says that wastes taxpayer money

Tampa, Florida--Walter Gunny Kozak, who runs Gunny's Interstate Travel and tours, says he believes the Hillsborough Public Transportation Commission is an agency whose time has come for it to disappear.

The agency regulates taxicabs, limousines and tow trucks. There is no other agency like it in the state and Kozak says it does not serve the best interest of the consumer or the motor carrier.

State Senator Ronda Storms agrees. She says it is about accountability, fiscal conservatism and efficiency.

Storms, a former Hillsborough Commissioner who served on the PTC board, has introduced a bill to eliminate the agency. Storms says if the 66 other counties in the state can regulate the same industries without a Public Transportation Commission, Hillsborough should be able to do it as well.

Ice cream truck driver arrested for Thanksgiving murders

Ruskin, Florida -- An ice cream truck driver who was shot in January has been arrested in connection to the Thanksgiving morning shooting that left two brothers dead and four others injured.

One of the four surviving victims remains in critical condition.

39-year-old Michael Keetley was arrested at his home in Wimauma Thursday morning and is facing two counts of first degree murder and four counts of attempted murder.

Detectives say Keetley is a robbery victim himself, who became obsessed with finding the men who robbed and shot him as he worked out of his ice cream truck in January.

Foreclosure prevention workshops to inform Hillsborough County

Foreclosure prevention workshops to inform Hillsborough County

Plant City, FL - In response to recent allegations of big banks' illegal foreclosure procedures, two workshops are being scheduled to help educate Hillsborough County homeowners about their loans through an objective third-party source, instead of the banks under suspicion.

The first Foreclosure Prevention Workshop will take place in Ruskin's Destiny Church from 7:00 pm - 9:00 pm on Thursday, Dec. 9. The second is scheduled for Plant City's Days Inn and Conference Center from 2:00 pm - 4:00 pm on Saturday, Dec. 11.

Florida Foreclosure defense attorney David C. Hicks will be the Keynote Speaker at both workshops, which are free to the public. He will be teaching residents about new legal strategies and potential solutions for defending against foreclosures and evictions.

Eveld embracing big chance with Bulls

Eveld embracing big chance with Bulls

Tampa, Florida- As big as the win over Miami was, South Florida quarterback Bobby Eveld is having a hard time holding onto the memories.

"That game is just a blur, that game went by so fast," says Eveld.

That blur has created quite a stir for the six foot five inch freshman.

"My grandma called me after the game and left a message, and, gosh, I went deaf in one ear. She was pretty emotional."

That's because Bobby's not just a freshman, he's a true freshman, and a walk-on. And none of that phased this 18 year old when he stepped in for USF against the Hurricanes and led an overtime win on the road.

"I don't think anyone's really shocked, but I think everybody's really proud at the way he handled himself in a real difficult situation," says head coach Skip Holtz.
